Southern Gentleman

My school just got four new student teachers from Virgina. They are all really nice, but I was a bit taken aback when one of the male teachers addressed me as ma'am.

Ma'am?!

Who me!?

Exactly when does one crossover from Miss to Ma'am?

Does being married do it? When I got married did I officially become a ma'am?

Is there a certain age that does it?

At 27, I hardly feel like a ma'am!

I appreciate the level of respect that this person is showing--really, I do!

But being called ma'am makes me feel old! Especially since this guy is probably only five years younger than me.

I am about to pull out the egg timer and commence intense cleaning and laundering up in this place. I need a good solid 20-30 minutes of cleaning before I can attempt to complete my paper that is due next Tuesday. After I finish the paper, I have to make a 15 minute power point presentation to email off to my professor for the rest of the group to view.

I kind of want to just crawl back in bed!

Do you remember the first time you were called ma'am?
Is it just me, or is anyone else really excited that tomorrow is Friday??

Um yes REALLY excited tomorrow is Friday! But that happens every week :)

I think I've been called ma'am at a store or something haha. He probably just did it because he is a student teacher and you are a real teacher haha.

If you want to feel younger I suggest coming to a rated r movie around me. They card basically everyone- I'm like seriously, you think I might be 16?!

I want to say you become a ma'am when you are married. But I can see how it makes you feel old. How nice to have more Americans where you work. Yes I'm so excited for Friday. Have a great day!

I am especially excited for Friday because next week we are out for spring break! I think the teachers are looking more forward to it than the kiddos. I've never noticed being called ma'am or miss.

I don't know when ma'am is chosen over miss. The first time I got called ma'am I was shocked and kinda chuckled inside because I thought it refered to older people (like my parent's age). But, the more I think about it, it really doesn't bother me because I feel like it's a respect thing.

I don't blame you for being taken aback by "ma'am". Now that I'm quite a few years past twenty-seven, I take even more offense. I know the person is trying to be polite, but it sounds so OLD.

I'm actually excited it's Thursday and there's no work for me tomorrow due to conferences. Three day weekend!!! I do remember being called:SeƱora when I was in my early twenties.... I thought about that for a while. I have been called ma'am a lot by older co-workers, I don't know why.....

Ugh! I hate this! A senior in my first period calls me ma'am and I keep asking him to stop. I'm only 24!
