a month

Baby Sneaker was one month old yesterday!

Not a single person has registered for my class on culturally responsive instruction. Boo! I have sent out emails trying to get people interested, but no luck so far. Only about 17 people have registered total for all of the classes, so it's not like I am the only one who doesn't have a lot of participants so far, but I am still bummed. I tried to teach the course last summer and didn't get enough people to register ( I need a minimum of 10) and I am thinking maybe the same thing will happen this year....I have to figure out how to get people inspired to register!

In doctoral news, the paperwork has been filed to appoint my committee, but unfortunately it takes up to 6 weeks to process that within the university. My lead adviser is leaving the country June 14th so it is very likely that I won't be able to defend my proposal until fall term because not much happens over the summer since professors often take the summer off to travel  etc. I was REALLY hoping to defend before Baby Sneaker was even born, so waiting until fall is really bumming me out. I am hopeful that things will move more quickly at PSU, so I can defend before school is out and start data collection over the summer, but it really looks like that won't happen. I am really proud of myself for following through with the parts I am responsible for, so I guess I just have to go with the flow and try not to get frustrated with the university timelines that take so long....

In other news, I officially put in a request to go part time starting in the fall. I am very hopeful that I can just drop the PM class and continue teaching AM Kindergarten at my same school. I feel like teaching two Kinder sessions puts me in the best possible situation to go half time and continue in somewhat of the same position, but I know that it is possible I will have to switch schools or do a different position. My principal was pretty much on my same page when I spoke with her earlier in the year, so it is likely I will be able to stay at my school and teach Kinder, but it's one of those situations that may change, so I have to wait and see what will happen. Bottom line, I want to have some time with my baby so I don't want to work full time and if that means I have to make a change in my job situation then I have to be willing to do that in order to get what I want for my child. FINGERS CROSSED I can stay in the same classroom in the same school and just teach AM instead of AM and PM!!!!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Day/Week to everyone!!!

Grace is just a little love bug in all that pink! I can't believe it's already been a month. That would be wonderful if you could just teach an a.m. kindergarten class each day. I teach full day kindergarten and we aren't planning on having kids for a few years, but I sometimes think about what I will do. It would be pretty difficult/practically impossible for us to live the lifestyle we want to live if I totally stopped working (and I think I will actually want some time away from home to do my own thing), but part-time teaching doesn't really happen around here. The only option is if I'm a Title I literacy teacher by then, and somehow I could work it out where I was only part time (but still received benefits). We shall see! I hope it all works out for you!

I can't believe that Grace is a month old, she is SO adorable! I love her pink chair too, I might have to know where you got that!

I wish I could register to take your class, I so would!

What a cutie!!!

I don't blame you at all for wanting to go part-time. Oh, in a perfect world I would work part-time (and keep my same salary LOL!).

Here it's up to the building principal -- some will allow job sharing and some won't. It's kind of weird. Michigan just passed a law for all day K across the board so no part-time K anymore. Should make things interesting!
